COUNTRY PURSUITS VII

The exhibition will open on Saturday 3rd September and run through to Saturday 29th October

Opening times are Monday-Saturday, 10am-5pm.

Nature and rural life will be the central themes of the forthcoming ‘Country Pursuits VII’ exhibition at the Whitehouse Gallery. Handmade craftworks made from natural materials will be on display along with a cornucopia of fine art inspired by nature and the countryside.

We are particularly proud to be showing for the first time works by leading Scottish oil painter Catriona Campbell. Best known as a figurative artist, Catriona also has a big soft spot for the animal world, especially horses, as can be seen in this animal-themed selection of her work.

Another well-known artist making her Whitehouse debut is Claire Harkess RSW. Claire’s painting is drawn predominantly from a sense of place, and has taken her around the world in search of wild and fragile lands. Working predominantly in watercolours, she aims to capture the balance, rhythms and harmony of nature in her work.

Scottish wildlife artist Georgina McMaster is back by popular demand after showing with us for the first time last year. She uses textured acrylic paint on canvas, leaving the background blank to focus on the eyes and soul of the animal.

We are delighted that Anna Wright will be creating some of her much sought after original mixed media pieces for us, combining quirky pen & ink drawings of animals with anything from fabric to feathers.

Locally-based artist and printmaker Lisa Hooper will also be returning to show with us. Her strikingly distinctive varied print making pieces are inspired by a passion for landscape and natural history, particularly birds.

Other fine artists in the exhibition include Jennie Ashmore,  Paul Bartlett, Phil Crennell, Alison Dickson, Sandra Moffat, Alec Galloway & Valerie Sadler.

As well as this diverse selection of fine art, the gallery will be displaying an array of rustic and earthy craftworks by wicker/willow sculptor Trevor Leat, furniture maker Phil Crennell, ceramicist Hannah McAndrew, glass artist Alec Galloway and stone sculptor Max Nowell.

The piece de resistance is a life sized wire Horse sculpture by Ayrshire artist Laura Antebi, she has built up a huge reputation for her unique interpretation of wildlife.
